Diverse Circus

Making circus classes more accessible for children and young people.

The Diverse Circus project gives children and young people on the autistic spectrum the opportunity to enjoy circus classes in a supported, relaxed and friendly environment with dedicated support.

Circus has got so much to offer. From the sheer joy of learning new skills, to meeting new friends to developing social skills and improving “physical literacy”. As a result, circus has always attracted children and young people from all walks of life. Because of this we are always striving to ensure that the principles of inclusive work are inherent within everything that we do.

The Diverse Circus project sees the launch of new, regular weekly circus classes for children and young people on the autistic spectrum, with sessions designed to be responsive to their individual needs. To help make sure they have the best experience possible and can enjoy all that circus can give.

We’ve built in a high teacher to student ratio, prepared familiarisation packs to introduce our space and teachers before the first visit, and will work with families to make sure each student has their needs catered to so that we can create an environment that offers an even better and more sustainable learning opportunity.

Regular Sunday classes begin in November 2020 and offer a wide variety of exciting circus disciplines for children including juggling, balance, aerial and acrobatics, all in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Parents, guardians or support workers are welcome to join in with the sessions if the young person attending would like additional support.

We believe in promoting integration and acceptance across all our work and alongside the dedicated Diverse Circus sessions we also provide support for children who would like to join our regular class programme. All Diverse Circus classes are free to participants thanks to the generous support of The Hodge Foundation and The Rayne Foundation with additional bursary support being available to help a transition into the main classes where appropriate.
