The United Shawl Project

News | Community | Clifton Street Festival |

The ‘Back to the Street’ event featured a spectacular 12.5 ft long majestic shawl, which was created from patches made by adults, children and young people from all backgrounds, ages and creative levels.

The patches were created through six workshops held at Oasis Refugee Centre, Railway Gardens, Splott Community Volunteers, No 28 Community Room with Mercy Church, NoFit State Family Circus and Trinity Refugee Centre.

The patches were then joined together by Ali from Sierra Tailors on Clifton Street and hoisted on an aerial rig on the day of the event, accompanied by spoken word performance inspired by words used during the workshops.

The shawl was then paraded down the street by Adam the Stiltwalker, accompanied by Kurdish Dancers.
