Block: work in progress showing

? To build the highest tower you must first build your foundations in humility? is the quote that inspired Block, the latest R&D process taking place in NoFit State? s Cardiff training space.

New director Paul Evans is working with five of NoFit State? s trainee performers and 24 larger than life Jenga inspired blocks to develop a brand new performance. The Trainee team includes Lee, Emily and Ellis, who have been with the company since last year and worked on the Barricade tour, along with our three brand new trainees Blaze, Nat and Fred who started at the beginning of this year.

The process driven investigation into the use of blocks takes in free running skills, wall trampoline and acrobatics. It looks at what is possible with the equipment and the development of an inclusive physical language that takes advantage of existing and newly learnt skills.

This R&D process is all building up to a work in progress showing at Nofit State? s John Street building on the 1st of February at 4pm. It is a key opportunity for us to present a project at a very early stage of its development and test new ideas on a public.

Block will be the first piece that Paul has directed for NoFit State and he explains a little more about the ideas behind the work ? From the starting point of the Jenga blocks, we are creating a concrete world of shifting architecture, where people inhabit space for their own purpose and create relationships or avoid them based on personal desire. Cooperation exists so long as each can see the individual benefit, in a place where creation and destruction follow each other in a seemingly futile cycle.?

Please join us on Friday 1st February at 4pm in John Street. The presentation will be followed by an informal feedback session. This event is free of charge.
