And so it begins in Newcastle-under-Lyme...

We've arrived in Newcastle under Lyme!

Only a couple of months since our show creation in Cardiff, and our designers, producers, and artistic directors have been planning, shaping and forming our new show, Lexicon. We are very excited to be here in Newcastle-under-Lyme - the birthplace of Philip Astley - but most importantly we are here to start the celebration and festivities for the 250th anniversary of modern British Circus.

Our crew has been setting up the site in Rycroft, raising 3 big tops and working hard for the preparations for the upcoming rehearsals with our director Firenza Guidi.

It's not just LEXICON taking place here. We also have our 'Themes and Stories' exhibition curated by photographer and friend of the company, Mark Robson, who has been very busy researching and documenting all the goings on around Lexicon, as well as our artists in residency programme and our circus Convention & Conference -  all as part of our involvement in the New Vic's Circus Past, Present & Future project.

Here's a little update from our correspondent on the ground, Jani Nightchild!

It's February, it's freezing cold, and we have set up our site on Ryecroft in Newcastle under Lyme.

Things not have been easy here. First we had to clean up. (Molly and Karlos)

Then bash in some stakes (Joachim, Pemma, Lyndall)

Then raise the big tops.

As you can see, its hard work, and our performers and crew are a dream team. We all rely on each other. We are like a big family and very excited about our tour. All these amazing places this year.

Hopefully we will find our keys to get into our rooms and caravans.
