Brighton

The Park

The second residency for Parklife will take place in  The Level, Brighton

A surreal celebration of the secret life of public parks by NoFit State Circus and a host of guest stars from Brighton and Hove.  Part playground, part bandstand, this is circus as you have never seen it before – aerial acrobatics and fireshow spectacle sat side by side with traditional and contemporary dance, music, sport and urban arts to create a new kind of large scale circus experience uniquely of, and for, Brighton Festival

The Programme

In the mornings, we will be training and rehearsing.

In the afternoons and evenings, we will be running free Open House sessions and meeting local performing arts and sports groups. Please check the calendar for Open House times.

During the Open House sessions all Parklife activities will be 'public' and free. You are welcome to come and watch our rehearsals and company members will be on hand to chat, host and explain what's happening. Activities will include;

  • 'Run away with the Circus' taster workshop sessions for adults (16+) - these include Men Only Hula Hoop, Whip Cracking for Women, Wire Walking, Capoeira, Rope and Tree Climbing, Unicycling and Bicycle Ballet.  (NB. numbers will be limited for some of these, so please come to The Level and sign up in advance if possible),
  • 'Talent Spot' - we believe everyone has a special talent, so please come and show us yours
  • 'Park Stories' - Tell us you stories about the park. We'd like to hear about significant or memorable things that have happened to you in the park,
  • 'Work in progress' performances, rehearsals and happenings on the set and around the park (audiences are invited to give their feedback)
  • Artists are welcome to come down to draw paint or sculpt in response to the visual imagary.
  • Music Jam in the Park led by the circus composer and music director

There will be a public meeting at 6pm on 17th May at the Level if you would like to find out more about what's happening and how you can get involved. Alternatively, come along to any Open House session and ask for the Park Keeper. To find out what is on when go to our Open House Calendar.

And don't miss the spectacular free Parklife performance on Sunday 23rd May, on the Level, 8.30pm for 9pm start.
